Things to Do

We are so thrilled you will be joining us in Miami! – where Gaby grew up and where Luke really wants to move. Allotting more time to your stay in Miami beyond the wedding will open up more activities. Car rentals to get around outside of the Downtown, Brickell, South Beach area are recommended.

Things to See & Do:

  • Take the Brightline bullet train to Orlando and visit any of the area’s numerous theme parks

  • Take a stroll down the Dogs and Cats Walkway and Sculpture Gardens in Maurice A. Ferré Park. You may recognize the mother of the bride’s name on a plaque next to the cat named “Alegría.”

  • Visit the Wynwood Walls in the historic Wynwood art district

  • Go to a “viernes cultural” (or cultural Friday) in Little Havana’s Calle Ocho and experience music and art from the Miami Cuban culture

  • Beach, Average water temperature is well into the 70’s in February. Take advantage!

  • Experience some of Miami’s legendary nightlife

Things to Eat

Our favorite places to eat:

  • Grab a smoothie and sample tropical fruit at Robert is Here

    • Mangosteen and guanabana are highly recommended to try if available. Be sure to tout the superiority of the Hass avocado to the paltry Reed

  • Have an authentic Cuban breakfast with Cuban coffee and pastelitos at the windows of either Versailles or La Carreta

  • Return to Versailles or La Carreta for lunch and have a Cuban sandwich (Luke incorrectly calls them tortas cubanas)

  • If you’re making your way down to The Keys, stop at Mrs. Mac’s Kitchen for a key lime pie. If you’re staying in Miami, most places also have a great key lime pie.

  • Try authentic Peruvian food at CVI.CHE 105 for an upscale experience or go upstairs to Pollos y Jaras for more casual cuisine

  • For the best hamburgers in Miami, pass by La Birra Bar in Wynwood

Type 2 Fun

If you enjoy being miserable while doing something that you can later look back on and think was actually fun, try these type 2 fun activities. It is well known in South Florida that any activity outside longer than 15 minutes will qualify as type 2 fun. Mosquitos and high humidity are no joke! Luckily February offers some of the best relief from the bugs and heat

  • Visit the Fruit and Spice Park to see hundreds of edible fruits and spices that can grow in South Florida’s unique tropical climate

  • Experience Everglades National Park in a unique way by renting a bike and riding the 15-mile trail dodging alligators at Shark Valley. Or, book a Slough Slog for those who want a truly intimate experience of what the Everglades has to offer

  • Take an air-boat ride with Psycho Pete at the Everglades Alligator Farm

  • Visit John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo

    • Kayak or paddle-board through the mangroves

    • Book a dive or snorkel trip to many beaches, reefs, and wrecks

    • Only about ¼ mile, the wild tamarind trail holds the record for most mosquito bites per mile. It loops through one of the few remaining stands of tropical hardwood hammock. Beware of the manchineel tree which is extremely toxic and causes blisters if you seek shelter under it during a rainstorm. After this short walk, you will understand why they cut down most of these forests
